Mystery shopper results show that many WiFi HotSpot solutions are not compliant with the laws

Over the weekend we have been contacting the various smaller WiFi HotSpot providers asking a simple question –  “Does your system log the sites that each user visit?  I’ve been told I need to do this to comply with the new regulations”.  This is a requirement not just of the DEB, but also of 3 other relevant laws.

The results are shocking.  Not one did.  More troubing was that many of the companies seemed unaware on any regulations whatsoever.

And yet if you look at the deployment of these systems, their customers are all holiday camps with a high turnover of customers – plenty of opportunity for naughty patrons to download all manner of copyright material, illegal content or even send naughty emails.   Remember, just because it’s working doesn’t mean it’s done right.

As a matter of urgency, if you have a HotSpot at your venue, ask your provider if you’re legal.  If for any reason you are unhappy with their answer, or want to check out what you are told then give us a call for a free, no obligation chat.
